The built-in dropbox tool in Ensemble Video makes it easy to collect content from other users such as students, colleagues, or clients. Content uploaded from a dropbox can then be published to a playlist, where the content creators can view and share their videos.
Without auto-publishing, the dropbox creator will need to visit the Media Library to review or publish the uploads. When paired with an Auto-Published playlist, the dropbox uploads will automatically be added to the desired playlist.
Connecting a Dropbox to a Playlist
Any contributor or administrator can create and edit a dropbox. Visit Administration > Library > Dropbox to start:
If you have not yet created a dropbox, click the +Add button from the Dropbox menu. Enter a Name, URL, and Description for the dropbox. If the currently library has more than one Media Workflow for uploads, choose the desired workflow. The library's default will be selected initially:
Deselect the Public checkbox if you do not want the dropbox to be found by users that do not have the Dropbox URL. Next visit Playlists. If the playlist does not already exist, create it now by selecting +Add. Then, select the Auto-Publish option below the playlist:
A list of all enabled upload workflows is shown, with all categories of the selected playlist below them. Select a category to turn on auto-publishing from that workflow to that category of the playlist. In the image below, "A Basic Playlist" has two categories, and we've selected the "Weekly Video Assignment" category. Earlier, we connected the Compress & Stream upload workflow with the dropbox.
Now, any content uploaded using the Compress & Stream workflow will be automatically published to the "Weekly Video Assignment" category for "A Simple Playlist". When a user visits the dropbox URL, they will see the standard Ensemble Video dropbox:

Using Workflows to Improve Auto-Publishing
In the example above, we set an upload workflow (Compress & Stream) to a playlist. Any time the Compress & Stream workflow is used, the upload will automatically be published to the designated Auto-Publish playlist. But what if a user in that library needs to upload content that doesn't get automatically published? In this situation, duplicate workflows can be used so that the normal upload workflow isn't tied to auto-publishing. Visit Administration > Library > Media Workflows to start. Note: normal contributor users cannot edit Media Workflows. This part will need to be done by an administrator.
Click the +Add button to create a new workflow to associate with the playlist. Select a Template for the workflow, if one exists. Next, enter a Title for the workflow. You can use the name generated by the template, but consider giving the workflow the name of the playlist that you will auto-publish.
Most of the other settings should already be populated by the template. If desired, the Transcode To option can be changed to better suit the use of the playlist. Example: if this is for an audio assignment, change the transcode option to an MP3/audio-only setting. Important: ensure the Default checkbox is not checked, unless you want this workflow to be the default selection for all uploads to this library. When finished, click the Save button. Visit the Playlists window and click Auto-Publish for the desired playlist:
Without the newly created workflow, the Compress & Stream workflow would be our only upload workflow to choose from. Now we have created a second choice. Select a category to auto-publish the new workflow to:
These two workflows use the same transcoder setting, but the default Compress & Stream option won't be automatically published. The new workflow will be a selectable option anywhere that upload workflows are used:
